Moved In!

25 Aug

Well hello everyone! Sorry it’s been so long since I have updated my blog : ( but like I said in one of my last post, I’ve been getting ready for college. I’m happy to say that I’m moved in and ready for classes to start on Monday! Yay! I will probably not be posting as often as I used to because I plan on being busy, busy, busy with school work but anytime I can I will be reading as much as possible. And guess what….it turns out that my roommate loves reading just as much as me so I’m sure I’ll be getting a bunch of new recommendations from her. Well, until my next post folks!

Waiting on Wednesday” is a weekly event, originally started by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that features upcoming releases that each blogger is eagerly anticipating.

This week I’m waiting for…

Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson

Expected Publication: September 24th 2013

Goodreads Summary:

Ten years ago, Calamity came. It was a burst in the sky that gave ordinary men and women extraordinary powers. The awed public started calling them Epics.

But Epics are no friend of man. With incredible gifts came the desire to rule. And to rule man you must crush his wills.

Nobody fights the Epics… nobody but the Reckoners. A shadowy group of ordinary humans, they spend their lives studying Epics, finding their weaknesses, and then assassinating them.

And David wants in. He wants Steelheart—the Epic who is said to be invincible. The Epic who killed David’s father. For years, like the Reckoners, David’s been studying, and planning—and he has something they need. Not an object, but an experience.

He’s seen Steelheart bleed. And he wants revenge.

Catchin’ Up

10 Aug

Hey guys since I’ve been pretty scarce with my posts of late, I just wanted to give you an update! I’m very sad to say that I really haven’t had a whole lot of time to read because I’ll be moving back to college in about two weeks so most of my time has been consumed with back to school shopping. I do hope to get in a few more books before the end of the summer and then hopefully when I’m settled at college, I can get back on track with my blog!

All Our Yesterdays by Cristin Terrill

Expected Publication: September 3rd 2013

all our yesterdays

Goodreads Summary:

“You have to kill him.” Imprisoned in the heart of a secret military base, Em has nothing except the voice of the boy in the cell next door and the list of instructions she finds taped inside the drain.

Only Em can complete the final instruction. She’s tried everything to prevent the creation of a time machine that will tear the world apart. She holds the proof: a list she has never seen before, written in her own hand. Each failed attempt in the past has led her to the same terrible present—imprisoned and tortured by a sadistic man called the doctor while war rages outside.

Marina has loved her best friend James since the day he moved next door when they were children. A gorgeous, introverted science prodigy from one of America’s most famous families, James finally seems to be seeing Marina in a new way, too. But on one disastrous night, James’s life crumbles apart, and with it, Marina’s hopes for their future. Now someone is trying to kill him. Marina will protect James, no matter what. Even if it means opening her eyes to a truth so terrible that she may not survive it. At least not as the girl she once was.

All Our Yesterdays is a wrenching, brilliantly plotted story of fierce love, unthinkable sacrifice, and the infinite implications of our every choice.

Scars and Songs by Christine Zolendz

3 Aug

ImageTitle: Scars and Songs

Author: Christine Zolendz

Published: June 2013

Pages: 461 (ebook)

Goodreads Summary:

Shane Maxton is front man for New York City’s popular rock band, Mad World. But he has secrets; he’s not what everybody thinks he is.
He comes from an ancient world, from a different time, when angels walked among men.
Read the story, through Shane’s eyes, of his forbidden love, his fall from grace and his inner turmoil from living with the irrational emotions of being human.

My Rating: 5 stars

My Thoughts:

So this is going to be fairly short because I assume if you read this book then you have also already read Fall From Grace and Saving Grace, which is the same story but told in Grace’s POV.

I was really excited when I saw this book because I absolutely love when authors retell their stories from the other character’s POV. It creates so much more depth and understanding to the characters, especially Shane’s. He was a really complicated guy and in the first two books and I was constantly frustrated with him because I didn’t know what he was thinking but in this book I finally understood all of his actions and thoughts behind them. I loved Shane before but after this book I connected with him and sympathized with him on a level that I hadn’t before.

If you haven’t read any of these books yet then I’m telling you now that you definitely should! The best thing about them is that the main plot is the contemporary romance and the character relationships but then the paranormal aspect is woven into it subtly and flawlessly. In my opinion its damn near the perfect recipe for a story’s plot! : )

Frozen by Melissa de la Cruz and Michael Johnston

Expected Publication: September 17th 2013

Image

Goodreads Summary:

From New York Times bestselling author Melissa de la Cruz and Michael Johnston comes this remarkable first book in a spellbinding new series about the dawn of a new kind of magic.

Welcome to New Vegas, a city once covered in bling, now blanketed in ice. Like much of the destroyed planet, the place knows only one temperature—freezing. But some things never change. The diamond in the ice desert is still a 24-hour hedonistic playground and nothing keeps the crowds away from the casino floors, never mind the rumors about sinister sorcery in its shadows.

At the heart of this city is Natasha Kestal, a young blackjack dealer looking for a way out. Like many, she’s heard of a mythical land simply called “the Blue.” They say it’s a paradise, where the sun still shines and the waters are turquoise. More importantly, it’s a place where Nat won’t be persecuted, even if her darkest secret comes to light.

But passage to the Blue is treacherous, if not impossible, and her only shot is to bet on a ragtag crew of mercenaries led by a cocky runner named Ryan Wesson to take her there. Danger and deceit await on every corner, even as Nat and Wes find themselves inexorably drawn to each other. But can true love survive the lies? Fiery hearts collide in this fantastic tale of the evil men do and the awesome power within us all.
