To save her mother’s life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters – never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.

As Clary uncovers more about her family’s past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadowhunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadowhunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he’s willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her newfound powers to help save the Glass City – whatever the cost?

Love is a mortal sin and the secrets of the past prove deadly as Clary and Jace face down Valentine in the final installment of the New York Times bestselling trilogy The Mortal Instruments.

My Thoughts:

This series is absolutely fantabulous! So far this is my favorite book in the series and I hope that it will keep getting better and better! I love the characters, the writing, and the world that Cassandra Clare has created!

This book starts off with the Jace and the Lightwoods planning to go to Alicante, the City of Glass, along with Clary but in a turn of events Simon goes with them instead and Clary is left behind. So with her newly discovered power of creating runes, Clary creates a portal to get to Glass City, illegally, and Luke happens to tag along. In Alicante, Clary is supposed to stay hidden since she isn’t supposed to be there, Simon runs into trouble for being a “Daylighter” vampire and is suspected of working for Valentine, and all the while Valentine begins to release demons upon demons and causes more destruction.

Clary and Jace still struggle with their feelings for each other. Both are completely in love with each other but have to hide it from everyone including themselves. Jace is still the same swoon-worthy, bad*** shadowhunter that I love so much! Believing he can’t be with Clary, he tries to move on but just like Simon and Clary’s relationship it doesn’t work out. At all! Then after making another discovery about what Valentine did when Jace was a child, he throws caution to the wind, putting his relationship with Cary and his life on the line. Clary is awesome in this book! She grew up a lot since the first book and really begins to take her place as shadowhunter. In Alicante she meets the charming and dark Sebastian who attempts, but fails miserably, at getting her to move on from Jace.

The best thing about this book is that everything is finally explained! You know who the good guys are and who’s bad, everything about Valentine and Jocelyn’s past, Valentine’s plan, and about the mess that is Jace and Clary’s relationship!

The ending of this was pretty epic and perfect! Everything seemed to work out for Clary, Jace, Simon, Luke, Alec, and most everyone else and I loved it! 🙂 I do have to say that there’s a HUGE plot twist that I loved and made me extremely happy and then another that made me not too happy but then after everything was all said and done, I was happy again! Pretty much everything was all summed up at the end but I’m glad there’s more to this phenomenal series!

If you’ve read the first two books of this series, then I guarantee that you will LOVE this one!
