The Mortal War is over, and sixteen-year-old Clary Fray is back home in New York, excited about all the possibilities before her. She’s training to become a Shadowhunter and to use her unique power. Her mother is getting married to the love of her life. Downworlders and Shadowhunters are at peace at last. And – most importantly of all – she can finally call Jace her boyfriend.

But nothing comes without a price.

Someone is murdering Shadowhunters who used to be in Valentine’s Circle, provoking tensions between Downworlders and Shadowhunters that could lead to a second bloody war. Clary’s best friend, Simon, can’t help her. His mother just found out that he’s a vampire and now he’s homeless. Everywhere he turns, someone wants him on their side – along with the power of the curse that’s wrecking his life. And they’re willing to do anything to get what they want. At the same time he’s dating two beautiful, dangerous girls – neither of whom knows about the other one.

When Jace begins to pull away from Clary without explaining why, she is forced to delve into the heart of a mystery whose solution reveals her worst nightmare: She herself has set in motion a terrible chain of events that could lead to her losing everything she loves. Even Jace.

Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge. The stakes are higher than ever in City of Fallen Angels.

My Thoughts:

I hoped that this series would continue to get better and better and happy to say that I have not been disappointed! I was slightly worried about where this book was going to go since the last book seemed to sum everything up but my worries were for nothing!

Its 6 weeks after the battle in Idris, Clary and Jace and both their families are home and readjusting to life. Unfortunately, it’s not that easy for everyone. Simon has to deal with the repercussions of Cain’s Mark that Clary gave him in order to protect him. Plus, some very high people are after him because of his being a Daylighter that is protected by God. Clary and Jace are going smoothly until Jace begins having nightmares. These nightmares haunt his every thought and burn images of him killing Clary into his mind that he cannot escape. All the while dark things are brewing and shadowhunters are being killed.

I hated any time is this book that Jace and Clary weren’t getting along! They were finally able to be together after the revelation that they weren’t brother and sister (I knew it, by the way!) and now Jace is having all these issues! It’s sad to see him struggle so much, especially when this book really puts into words how deeply he loves Clary! Clary on the other hand struggles with her uncertainty of how to help Jace who continually pulls away from her. 😦 But they’re a tough pair that already overcame death, so of course they can get through anything together!

Like in the last few books in the series, this one has a bunch of different side plots that allow you to get to know the different characters more. I love that this series does this! It makes it more believable and real because it helps to build a bigger picture and helps with making a connection to all the characters. But I must say that the one little thing that I did get tired of was Alec and Magnus! I mean I love them and all that but Alec really needs to get his priorities straight; what’s more important: his relationship or the survival of his friends and family! He is waaayyyy to dramatic! On a more positive note, things worked out for Simon, Isabelle, and Maia! 😉

Ughhh the end! It’s a huge cliffhanger so thank goodness I already have the next book but I have to say that these characters, Jace and Clary especially, can NEVER catch a break!!

This was an amazing addition to a MUST READ series!
