Don’t miss The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, soon to be a major motion picture in theaters August 2013. The New York Times bestselling Mortal Instruments continues—and so do the thrills and danger for Jace, Clary, and Simon.

What price is too high to pay, even for love? When Jace and Clary meet again, Clary is horrified to discover that the demon Lilith’s magic has bound her beloved Jace together with her evil brother Sebastian, and that Jace has become a servant of evil. The Clave is out to destroy Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other. As Alec, Magnus, Simon, and Isabelle wheedle and bargain with Seelies, demons, and the merciless Iron Sisters to try to save Jace, Clary plays a dangerous game of her own. The price of losing is not just her own life, but Jace’s soul. She’s willing to do anything for Jace, but can she still trust him? Or is he truly lost?

Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge. Darkness threatens to claim the Shadowhunters in the harrowing fifth book of the Mortal Instruments series.

My Rating: 5 stars

My thoughts:

Once again, a spectacular addition to The Mortal Instruments series! Clare certainly has a way of righting breathtaking, heart pounding books!

The last book left off with Jace becoming connected to the Sebastian and both of them disappearing. This book starts off with the Clary, the Lightwoods, and the Clave on a full-fledged manhunt for the two boys. It doesn’t take long for them to discover that when Sebastian bleeds, Jace does as well. They’re told a sword from heaven may do the trick in breaking the connection and so Alec, Isabelle, Simon, and Magnus all take that route while Clary goes straight for Jace!

Although Jace isn’t Clay’s Jace for the majority of this book, I still really, really love him and even though he’s possessed, he still loves Clary! And the parts where he is Clary’s Jace, I love him even more! I felt for Clary a lot in this book because she has to deal with seeing the boy she loves be happy for all the wrong reasons which breaks her heart! She definitely grew up big time since the City of Bones and stepped it up another level from the last book! She was braver, less naïve, more of a bad***, and pretty much became a real shadowhunter!

I was very happy to see how everything worked out with all the other characters too! Jordan and Maia finally worked out their messed up issues, Simon and Isabelle stop being so stubborn about each other, and Magnus and Alec…well I must say I quite enjoyed how their relationship turned out! Now for Sebastian…I must admit that I really like him as a bad guy! Clare did an awesome job at making him a believable, smooth-talking, evil psychopath, especially when he starts trying to get it on with his sister! Yea, he’s a weird dude.

Thank goodness that this book didn’t end with a huge cliffhanger! There was a little one that definitely sparked my interest about the next sequel, but there wasn’t anything like Jace getting possessed again! I really don’t know what I would have done if it had, since the next one doesn’t come out until 2014!

Anyway, I’ve said it about all the other books in this series and I’ll say it again: this series is a MUST READ!
