There’s a babe in my belly that whispers the valley, Froi. I follow the whispers and come to the road . . .

Separated from the girl he loves and has sworn to protect, Froi must travel through Charyn to search for Quintana, the mother of Charyn’s unborn king, and protect her against those who will do anything to gain power. But what happens when loyalty to family and country conflict? When the forces marshalled in Charyn’s war gather and threaten to involve the whole of the land, including Lumatere, only Froi can set things right, with the help of those he loves.

My Rating: 5 stars

My Thoughts:

This was the last book in The Lumatere Chronicles and it was also by far the BEST! I loved this book so much and almost pulled an all-nighter one night while reading it! I just could not put it down!

This book starts of right where the last left off; Quintana was forced to run for her life and leave Froi, not knowing whether he would live or die, after they were betrayed. After some time, Froi finds his family, Gargarin, Lirah, and Arjuro, and they begin a search for their strange princess that carries the future of King of Charyn. All the while Quintana hides with Pheadra and the women of the valley.

Like the other two books in this series, the characters are absolutely wonderful! I loved Froi and Quintana and I love their relationships with the other characters. Froi, Gargarin, Lirah, and Arjuro make up such an unusual little family and despite their complicated pasts, they all love each other fiercely. Froi also has his Lumatere family: Isaboe, Finnikin, Tevanion, Perri, Lord August and everyone else! His relationship with them is put to the test in this book but still they are Froi’s family who taught Froi to love and gave him a place to belong! Now on the other hand, Quintana has a strained relationship with most people she meets until they get to know her and once they do, they learn to love her and are willing to protector with their lives. This is what happened with both the women from the valley and with Froi.

Again, this book switches between the characters stories and I could NEVER get enough of each character! I loved Lucain and Pheadra’s story as they discovered their love for each other and Isaboe and Finnikin’s story as they faced different obstacles in the kingdom and in their lives. And then of course there was Froi and Quintana’s story as they fought to protect each other’s lives and the life of their son, even thought they were separated.

I loved the ending of this story and how everything just fell into place. Needless to say everyone had a happily ever after, but I am very sad to see this series end! I became EXTREMELY attached to the characters and wish I could continue to read about their lives!

This was an extraordinary series that anyone would love!
