When you can’t trust yourself, who can you believe?

Everything about Anna’s life is a secret. Her father works for the Branch at the helm of its latest project: monitoring and administering treatments to the four genetically altered boys in the lab below their farmhouse. There’s Nick, Cas, Trev . . . and Sam, who’s stolen Anna’s heart. When the Branch decides it’s time to take the boys, Sam stages an escape, killing the agents sent to retrieve them.

Anna is torn between following Sam or staying behind in the safety of her everyday life. But her father pushes her to flee, making Sam promise to keep her away from the Branch, at all costs. There’s just one problem. Sam and the boys don’t remember anything before living in the lab—not even their true identities.

Now on the run, Anna soon discovers that she and Sam are connected in more ways than either of them expected. And if they’re both going to survive, they must piece together the clues of their past before the Branch catches up to them and steals it all away.

My Rating: 4 Stars

My Thoughts:

This book was awesome-sauce! The exciting plot was captivating and the characters were wonderful! I was hooked right from the very beginning with the unique plot!

Trev, Cas, Nick, and Sam are four boys that are anything but ordinary. In fact, they’re experiments. They’ve been genetically altered and have no recollection of their time before being kept in a lab where they are observed and treated by a young girl, Anna and her father, a scientist for the Branch. When the times comes the boys escape, with Anna in tow and so begins their mission to put the pieces of their lives back together following the clues that Sam left behind for himself.

I loved the boys so much! Trev was Anna’s rock and best friend! He was sweet and kind…well, at least most of the time….Cas was the jokester!. He always had something to say that brought humor to this book and for that he was definitely one of my favorite characters! Nick was the rough-around-the-edges jerk who turns out to be kind of nice. And then there’s Sam! He was secretive, brooding, and protective of all the boys and Anna. He’s the boy that, over the years, stole Anna’s heart. Their romance starts off slow with Anna having feelings from him and at first, his aren’t really reciprocated, but slowly he lets Anna in and obviously loves her too! ; )

The whole plot of this book had my blood pumping! It was constantly fast-paced as Anna and the boys tried to solve the mystery of their past, while being fighting to escape capture from the Branch. Slowly it becomes apparent that they are more after Anna than the boys. The pieces of the puzzle start to take shape and truths are learned that change both Anna and the boys lives. I had my suspicions of what was going to happen but I really didn’t know how it was going to be pulled off as believable. But it was. Flawlessly!

Once I got to the end my eyes were literally glued to the page devouring everything that was happening! The boys and even Anna were total bad*** even though they gave me a heart attack a couple of times. One of the best things, about the ending was no cliffhanger! It was definitely left open for another book but nothing horribly drastic had my eyes popping out of my head at the end, which is certainly a good thing!

Overall, this was an exciting, fast-paced, and unique story that I could not put down! I cant’t wait for the next one!
