Goodreads Summary:

When a strange boy tumbles down a river embankment and lands at her feet, seventeen-year-old adrenaline junkie Deznee Cross snatches the opportunity to piss off her father by bringing the mysterious hottie with ice blue eyes home.

Except there’s something off with Kale. He wears her shoes in the shower, is overly fascinated with things like DVDs and vases, and acts like she’ll turn to dust if he touches her. It’s not until Dez’s father shows up, wielding a gun and knowing more about Kale than he should, that Dez realizes there’s more to this boy—and her father’s “law firm”—than she realized.

Kale has been a prisoner of Denazen Corporation—an organization devoted to collecting “special” kids known as Sixes and using them as weapons—his entire life. And, oh yeah, his touch? It kills. The two team up with a group of rogue Sixes hellbent on taking down Denazen before they’re caught and her father discovers the biggest secret of all. A secret Dez has spent her life keeping safe.

A secret Kale will kill to protect.

My Rating: 4 Stars

My Thoughts:

This book has been around for a while now and I’ve heard many good things about it but I never read it. Now I wish I had read it sooner!

Deznee, aka Dez, loves nothing more than doing extreme things to antagonize her strict lawyer father, which includes bringing a boy she finds being chased in the woods to her house. At first, Dez thinks that not everything is there when it comes to Kale but it soon becomes apparent that there’s much more to it because Kale is anything but ordinary. In fact he has a touch of death and kills anything he touches, that is until he discovers that Dez is immune. Cue all things cute!

I don’t think that I have ever said “Awww” so many times in a book. Once Kale finds out that he can touch Dez he didn’t even know what to do with himself! Never before was he able to have a connection with other people like he could with Dez, but he was still the epitome of sweet and naïve and I just fell in love with him! Because everything on the outside world was so new to him, he was clueless about things in everyday life and especially things like relationships. He didn’t even know what a kiss was or what holding hands meant. Everything he did was so innocent. To put it simple, Kale was just down right adorable!

Dez was also an awesome character and is now one of my favorite heroines! She did some crazy stuff but it just proved how strong and independent she was. She took anything that people threw at her but instead of it tearing her down, it strengthened her resolve. Dez truly was an admiral character. Not to mention I loved how she was with Kale! She was always patient and kind with him when he didn’t comprehend different things. He was her soft spot when often times she came off very harsh to other people.

The plot of this book was not really what I saw coming but that’s definitely not a bad thing. Dez learned some things that turned her world upside down but she too had her own secrets. Quite a few times, this book took some unexpected turns and kept me on my toes, which is a feat since normally I have an idea of what’s going to happen. And the si-fi aspect of the plot was weaved into the story perfectly and just created this whole other world apart from the norm.

This was a must read that will have you wearing a huge grin and saying awe a million times!
